About the Author
Dawn has been writing ever since she can remember. From stories
about bears lurking in the woods to her current endeavor (Out
of Nothing), words have been one way that Dawn has made sense
of her world.
In junior high, bears gave way to elves and dwarves, and Dawn convinced
the shy boy in her music class to illustrate her stories.
A few years later, taking a cue from her grandfather and spending
her writing sessions at McDonald's, she tried her hand at a novel
about witches.
Through it all, other people's words became her life, and she remembers
taking notes of words, phrases, and quotations that resonated with
her. Her writing notebook included Sherlock Holmes voicing, "It
is an old maxim of mine that when you have excluded the impossible,
whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." She
also wrote down Latin verb conjugations, hoping she'd get to take
Latin in high school or college. She never did.
Her deepest desire was to be an author, and in 2007, Dawn started
outlining Out of Nothing. The entire process of writing this
novel has been heart-wrenching, yet, as with many stories, it wouldn't
be satisfied until it was brought out into the light.
